Oksfjord, Norway

A mountainous landscape dotted with multicolored houses welcomes you to Oksfjord. Located in the Loppa municipality of Finnmark County, this village provides access to some of the best deep-sea fishing anywhere. Hop on a ferry to Hasvik on the neighboring island of Soroya, where a Norwegian record 82-pound cod once was caught, or cast your reel for halibut and other species in area waters. Spanning 17 square miles at nearly 4,000 feet above sea level, Oksfjordjokulen is among the country's largest glaciers and can be explored on foot, skis or by boat. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive northern lights from late September to late March, or bask in the 24-hour daylight of summer's midnight sun.
